A pair of Portland hikers exploring the Badlands Wilderness east of Bend were assisted back to safety after becoming stranded on Sunday. The hikers — one male, one female and both in their early 40s — had reportedly run out of food and water after becoming lost, said Jason Carr, a spokesperson with the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office.
